Marc Márquez Achieves Second Sprint Race Victory at Argentina GP – MotoGP 2025

Marc Márquez Secures Second Sprint Victory of 2025 Season at Argentina GP

Marc Márquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) held off a fierce challenge from his brother Álex Márquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) to claim his second Tissot Sprint victory of the 2025 season at Termas de Río Hondo, Argentina. Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) finished third, securing valuable points, ending the race 3.8 seconds behind the leader.

Starting from pole, Marc Márquez got a perfect start, taking the holeshot. Álex Márquez followed closely, with Bagnaia moving into third. Johann Zarco (LCR Honda CASTROL), despite starting from the front row, dropped to sixth in the early stages.

On the first lap, Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) collided with Franco Morbidelli (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) and crashed out. Binder’s teammate, Pedro Acosta, moved up to fourth, holding off Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP). Meanwhile, the Márquez brothers set a fast pace, pulling away from the rest of the field.

By lap four, Álex was just 0.2 seconds behind Marc, while Bagnaia had fallen 1.3 seconds adrift. Acosta maintained fourth under pressure from Zarco. During the mid-race stages, the Márquez brothers maintained a tight battle, both lapping consistently in the 1:37s. Bagnaia slipped back into the 1:38s, leaving the sprint duel between the brothers firmly in place.

With four laps to go, the gap between the Márquez siblings was 0.371 seconds. Álex struggled slightly with pace, and by the final two laps, the gap widened to 0.721 seconds. On the final lap, Marc made no mistakes and crossed the finish line 0.903 seconds ahead, marking his third win of the season and second consecutive Saturday sprint victory. Álex Márquez secured second, and Bagnaia completed the podium, adding crucial points in the championship battle.

Rider Reactions

Marc Márquez (Sprint Winner):
“It was a tough race because Álex was pushing from behind. The race pace was good, consistently in the 37s, but no matter how much I pushed, the gap didn’t widen. I kept pushing until the final lap. Álex’s pace dropped slightly at the end, but tomorrow’s main race will be another tough battle.”

Álex Márquez (2nd Place):
“It was a good race. Following Marc felt like one of our training sessions together. Towards the end, I was close to my limit and decided to settle for second, especially with the gap to Pecco. Marc was fast until the end, but I’m aiming for a strong performance in the main race.”

Francesco Bagnaia (3rd Place):
“I gave my best to close the gap, but it wasn’t enough against the Márquez brothers. Right now, they have the speed advantage, and I need to adapt to the situation. I’ll enjoy the crowd today and aim for a better result tomorrow.”
