Sprint Race 2nd Place – Álex Márquez: “I Shifted to a Strategy to Hold on to Second” | MotoGP 2025

Following Marc to Secure Second – Álex Márquez Reflects on Tactical Ride

Starting strong from the very beginning, Álex Márquez had a near-perfect opening lap and quickly settled into a steady pace behind his brother Marc. Though he launched several attacks, Marc managed to retake the lead each time, keeping Álex in second. Despite close-quarter racing, Álex held a strong position throughout. However, Marc’s superior speed in left-hand corners—especially at Turn 12—forced Álex to back off from risky maneuvers and switch to a strategy focused on securing second place. With a comfortable gap to third, he maintained his position and brought home a solid podium finish.

Álex Márquez:

“Today I had a really good feeling. The start and the first lap went perfectly. After that, I was following Marc and keeping a consistent pace. I did try to attack a few times, but he managed to take the position back. Even when running close behind him, I was able to stay in a good spot. I wanted to go for another attack, but Marc’s speed in the left-hand corners was just on another level. At Turn 12, I was close to crashing, so I decided to switch to a strategy focused on holding onto second place.”

“There was a good gap behind me to third, so I just managed the position from there. It wasn’t a bad race at all, though there are definitely some areas we can improve. Overall, I think it was a strong performance.”
