Marc Márquez Maintains Strong Form After Summer Break, Sets Fastest Time in Austria GP FP1 – MotoGP 2025

Marc Márquez Continues Strong Form After Summer Break – Sets Fastest Time in FP1 at Austrian GP | MotoGP 2025

The Austrian GP weekend kicked off at the Red Bull Ring on Friday, with Marc Márquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) setting the fastest time in Free Practice 1 (FP1). Carrying the momentum from his recent win in Brno, Márquez clearly demonstrated his speed to his rivals.

Despite it being the first session after the summer break, Márquez delivered an impressive performance. He finished 0.3 seconds clear of the rest of the field, marking a perfect start to the weekend. His teammate, Francesco Bagnaia, followed in second. Although Bagnaia has won the last three races at the Red Bull Ring, overcoming championship leader Márquez will be crucial if he hopes to extend that streak.

Following the factory Ducati duo, Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) secured third after improving his time late in the session. Alex Márquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) took fourth place. He is serving a long lap penalty this weekend and practiced it during the session. Rounding out the top five was Franco Morbidelli (VR46), making it four Ducatis in the top five.

The fastest Honda rider was 2020 champion Joan Mir (Honda HRC Castrol), who took sixth place, just within 0.5 seconds of Márquez. The top Yamaha was Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) in seventh. Reigning champion Jorge Martín (Aprilia Racing) improved his time shortly after Márquez’s fastest lap and placed eighth.

The KTM riders, racing at their home Grand Prix, had a cautious start. Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) finished ninth, followed by Enea Bastianini (Red Bull KTM Tech3) in tenth.
