Francesco Bagnaia Takes Victory
Round 3 of the 2025 MotoGP: Americas GP
A sudden rain shower just before the start of the 2025 MotoGP Round 3 at the Americas GP caused chaos on the grid. Eventually, a red flag was shown and the pit lane was opened at 14:10. The race was restarted using the quick start procedure, with all riders opting for slick tires.
In a dramatic turn of events, Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) capitalized on Marc Márquez’s crash to claim victory, marking his 30th career win. Meanwhile, Álex Márquez (BK8 Gresini) secured second place and moved into the lead in the MotoGP championship standings.
Márquez’s Commanding Lead Ends in a Turn 4 Crash
Marc Márquez took the holeshot at the start and built a 1.1-second lead by the end of lap 1. As Bagnaia steadily worked his way past Álex Márquez to take second place, Marc extended his lead to over two seconds by lap 5. However, disaster struck on lap 6 at Turn 4 when Márquez lost the front after hitting a wet curb and crashed out.
Though he attempted to restart, the right footpeg of his bike had broken, making it impossible to continue. He rejoined the race in 18th, but retired on lap 13.
Bagnaia Cruises to Victory as Álex Becomes New Championship Leader
With Marc out, Bagnaia moved into the lead and maintained his position, with Álex Márquez holding on to second. Fabio Di Giannantonio also mounted a challenge but fell short, finishing third. Bagnaia’s win marked his 30th career victory, making him the 10th rider in history to reach that milestone.
Álex Márquez, with six consecutive podium finishes, now tops the overall standings. Di Giannantonio continued to show strong form as well.
