Mir Feels the Trust in Honda and Signs of a Comeback
Joan Mir, who has struggled with confidence over the past two years, says that the difficult times were a necessary step in regaining competitiveness. Now, rather than just “getting through” the races, he feels motivated by being able to “fight” again. He is gaining confidence as he gradually manages to maintain a pace within the top five.
Despite the hardships with Honda, his trust in the project remains unshaken. While the bike package still has issues, he believes that if they focus on improving top speed and rear grip, it is realistically possible to regain competitiveness relatively quickly.

“I’ve been saying the same thing for the past two years, and I even started to lose confidence in what I was doing. But I think this kind of situation was a necessary process to become competitive again. I can’t say I’ve reached my goal yet, but I’m on the way back to being competitive. That really makes me happy.”
“I’m glad I can properly race again. Until now, it felt more like I was just there, not actually racing. So I feel motivated just being able to truly compete again.”
“We’re competing at the highest level in the world, and I’ve been through tough situations. There are times I wonder whether it’s all worth the effort. But what helps me is my family, training at home, my team, and the environment around me. Honda has always supported me, and that’s very reassuring.”
“There’s probably no one who can speak better about the trust I have in Honda’s project. I’ve been through hard times with them, but I haven’t given up on believing. When I see Honda’s approach, I feel like I still want to give it my all here. I’m still young, and I’ve got time.”
“When I think about the next two years, I believe that by the end of that period, we’ll have regained our competitiveness. When that moment comes, I’ll know staying with Honda was the right choice.”
“Last year was really difficult. I was expecting big improvements during testing, but honestly, I didn’t feel any progress. However, once the season started, Honda’s efforts started to show, and I could feel the changes in the bike.”
“I’m starting to enjoy riding the bike again. There are still areas that need adjustment, and I’ve been crashing a lot. But what’s important is that we’re getting our competitiveness back.”
“In terms of pace, we’re able to run close to the top five, but when it comes to fighting in races, we still lack top speed and rear grip. The overall package isn’t complete yet. But if we focus on those two areas, I believe we can get back to being competitive relatively quickly.”
“I think we’re getting closer to the top five, and once we can consistently race in that zone, the podium will come into view. For now, the goal is to break into the top five. I’m excited for what lies ahead.”
