Confidence and Caution as Marc Márquez Heads into the Jerez GP
Marc Márquez shared his thoughts ahead of this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix. As the opening race of the European leg of the MotoGP season, Jerez holds special meaning—especially for Spanish riders. Márquez is no exception, returning to a track where he’s experienced both triumph and heartbreak, and this year, he’s aiming for more than just a podium.
For this round, Márquez has set the podium as his primary goal. While keeping his eyes on the championship, he’s also ready to push for victory if the opportunity arises. Still, he’s wary of Pecco Bagnaia, who has dominated Jerez for the past three years.

“We’re heading into the first European race, and it’s at Jerez. A lot of riders like this track, but for Spanish riders in particular, it holds a special significance. Personally, Jerez brings back both good and bad memories. But last year I got my first podium here, and I think I was able to ride a good race. It’s a very tight circuit, so timing your moves to get to the front is key.”
“The main goal is to get on the podium, with the championship in mind. Of course, if there’s a chance to go for the win, I will. But we can’t forget Pecco has won here three years in a row. Alex will also be fast. The season is long, but Pecco is likely to be the main rival.”
“Pecco and I have the same tools—we’re both on the latest-spec Ducati. Ducati continues to develop the bike, and it keeps getting better. But Alex’s performance has also been very strong.”
“It hasn’t been a bad start to the season. The race in Austin was a major mistake. I crashed while leading, and that cost me a lot of points. But aside from that, I’ve been riding at a high level. I’m confident in the bike, and I’ve been consistent throughout practice sessions. Still, it’s only the fifth race of the season, and there’s a long way to go.”
