Austrian GP: Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team Kicks Off Crucial Second Half of 2025 Season
After a three-week summer break, the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team is back on track for the second half of the 2025 MotoGP World Championship, starting with Round 13—the Austrian Grand Prix in Spielberg. Riders Fabio Quartararo and Álex Rins will take on the Red Bull Ring, aiming to turn momentum in their favor during this critical phase of the season.
This weekend marks the beginning of an intense 13.5-week stretch featuring 10 races, including five double-headers. With the stakes high, Yamaha is fully committed to making every round count.
Currently 9th in the standings, Fabio Quartararo spent the break maintaining his training regimen while taking time to mentally recharge. Although the Red Bull Ring isn’t considered a Yamaha-friendly track, Quartararo has a solid track record here, having claimed podiums in 2019 (3rd), the 2021 Styrian GP (3rd), and 2022 (2nd) aboard the YZR-M1.
Meanwhile, Álex Rins—18th in the standings—used the summer to spend time with family while staying focused on his fitness. He took part in several race formats at different circuits to stay sharp. His best MotoGP result at Spielberg is 6th, but he also has a Moto2 podium (3rd in 2016) at the venue. For this weekend, he’s targeting points and placing emphasis on braking stability and acceleration—key performance factors at this demanding circuit.
The Red Bull Ring, originally built in 1969 and redesigned in 1996, has hosted MotoGP since its return in 2016. The 11-turn layout (3 left, 8 right) is known for its fast straights—including an 810-meter stretch—and technical demands, particularly in terms of top speed, acceleration, and braking.
Massimo Meregalli (Team Director)
"The return of MotoGP after the summer break is always a moment fans look forward to, and Spielberg offers both a stunning location and an electric atmosphere. Our crew and Yamaha engineers are fully recharged and ready for the upcoming five double-headers. While the data may suggest this circuit doesn’t suit our bike, we never give up. We’re prepared to give our all this weekend."
Fabio Quartararo
"The summer break was a great chance to relax with friends and family, but I kept up with my usual training. These past three weeks helped me recharge, and I know the second half will be very intense. We understand our strengths and weaknesses, and we’re focused on improving over the next 10 races. I’m ready to give 100% as always and looking forward to the weekend’s results."
Álex Rins
"I had a really good summer break—some proper rest and time with loved ones, but also training and preparation for the second half of the season. As I mentioned in Brno, qualifying remains our top priority for improvement, and that’s where I’ll be focusing this weekend. Spielberg has a lot of heavy braking zones, so braking stability and acceleration will be key for us."
