Aragon GP – Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Aims for Redemption After Emotional Silverstone Setback
Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP heads to MotorLand Aragón for Round 8 of the 2025 MotoGP World Championship, following a one-week break after the emotionally charged British Grand Prix. Riders Fabio Quartararo and Álex Rins arrive in Spain with renewed determination, looking to convert momentum into results at one of the more demanding circuits on the calendar.
Currently sitting 8th in the standings, Fabio Quartararo is bracing for a tough challenge at a track that hasn’t historically suited Yamaha. However, buoyed by recent flashes of pace, the French rider is focused on carrying that positive energy forward. Quartararo’s best result at Aragon came in 2019 with a 5th-place finish, and while he admits the layout isn’t favorable, he remains committed to pushing at 100%.
Fabio Quartararo:
“The British GP didn’t end the way we wanted — it was a tough one emotionally, for myself, the team, the engineers, and the fans. But we also showed great pace, especially when leading the race, so there were positives to take away. Aragon isn’t the easiest circuit for me, but I’ll give everything to fight at the front again.”
Álex Rins, currently 17th in the championship, is determined to stage a comeback at a track that holds fond memories. Rins has an impressive record at MotorLand: a win in Moto3 (2013), a second place in Moto2 (2015), and both a win and a runner-up finish in MotoGP (2020). His experience and success at the venue make this a pivotal opportunity to reset his season.
Álex Rins:
“About a third of the 2025 season is behind us, and while we’ve made small improvements, the goals are still ahead. Aragon is a tricky circuit, but we approach it with a positive mindset and the drive to improve. Last year we had a good race here, and I’m aiming to do even better this time.”
MotorLand Aragón, back on the calendar since 2024 after being dropped in 2023, features a 5.1 km layout with 17 corners (10 left, 7 right) and a 968-meter back straight. Its mix of technical sections and long straights makes it a challenging venue — particularly for Yamaha, which has historically struggled with top-end speed.
Adding to the lineup this weekend is Augusto Fernández, who joins as a wild card entry with the Yamaha Factory Racing Test Team. He will also take part in the post-race IRTA test on Monday, contributing to Yamaha’s broader development efforts.
Massimo Meregalli (Team Director, Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP):
“The British GP ended in an emotional way for Fabio and the whole team. This break gave us a chance to rest and reflect. MotorLand Aragon is not a ‘friendly’ circuit for Yamaha, which makes it the perfect place to evaluate our recent progress. The presence of the test team this weekend is also important, as we’ll gather valuable data and continue our evaluation in Monday’s IRTA test.”
This weekend is more than just another race for Yamaha — it’s a test of how far they’ve come, and a chance to prove they’re capable of turning adversity into advancement.
